🍨 Ate Local: I’m on a wing scavenger hunt! I had JoJo’s yesterday (a classic), but I’m looking for another wing spot that might not jump out immediately but is worth trying. Hit “Reply” and let me know!

Fort Pierce Moves to Fire City Manager Nick Mimms

Why You Should Care
The decision to terminate Nick Mimms as Fort Pierce’s city manager affects the leadership and future direction of our city. Mimms, who faces charges of bid rigging and misconduct, will be on administrative leave without pay until mid-February. His departure signals the City Commission’s hope to restore trust and accountability, but also raises questions about the stability of city management.

How Did We Get Here
Mimms’ legal troubles began with an indictment on charges of bid rigging and official misconduct. Despite these allegations, the City Commission initially called for his resignation but ultimately voted 3-2 to terminate him without cause, allowing him to retain retirement benefits and a severance package of about $84,000. This decision was complicated by Mimms’ long-standing service to Fort Pierce and support from some commissioners who view him as a dedicated public servant.

Where Do We Go
As Fort Pierce searches for new leadership, City Clerk Linda Cox will continue as acting city manager. The city plans to post the position publicly, inviting applications and considering a permanent hire early next year. With major challenges like King’s Landing and Fisherman’s Wharf on the horizon, the city’s hope is to secure effective leadership. Fort Pierce residents will be watching closely to see how the commission handles this critical hire.
