It's Wednesday! Primary elections were held yesterday and there are some races heading to the November 3rd general election. The newsletter stays politics free and that is not changing. This is simply the results so you know what is on the ballot 🗳️.

Let's jump right in!

Port St. Lucie Mayor: Mayor Shannon Martin and Steven Giordano advance to the November 3rd runoff. Neither candidate hit 50% plus one in the primary. Martin led with 47.97%, Giordano had 35.16% and Eric Strazzeri had 16.87%.

Port St. Lucie City Council District 1: Rick Meltzer and Indony Jean Baptiste advance to November 3rd. Meltzer led with 42.11%, Baptiste had 22.11%, Kevin Zimmerman 20.84% and Eric Reikenis 14.94%. This seat is open as three-term incumbent Stephanie Morgan did not seek reelection.

St. Lucie County Commission District 4: Jean Eddy Leroy won the Democratic primary over Roger Messer by 276 votes, 50.66% to 49.34%. Leroy advances to November 3rd where he will face Republican incumbent Jamie Lee Fowler and Nicholas Burgos, who has no party affiliation.

St. Lucie County School Board District 1: Incumbent Debbie Hawley won outright with 55% of the vote over challenger Brian Capp. She will not face a general election opponent.

U.S. House District 21: James Martin of Hobe Sound won the Democratic primary over Bernard Taylor of Port St. Lucie, 50.38% to 49.62%. Martin advances to November 3rd where he and independent Alexander Cooke will challenge five-term incumbent Brian Mast.

Fort Pierce City Commission unanimously rejected a settlement offer in a lawsuit over Little Jim Bait & Tackle bar on North Hutchinson Island. Resident Keven Keene sued to prevent a long-term lease until the city resolves state violations. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection fined the city nearly $16,000 for unpermitted docks on state-owned waters. The lawsuit could continue for 45 days as Keene considers amending his filing again.

Golden Krust Caribbean Restaurant plans to open its first Treasure Coast location at 6598 South U.S. 1 in Port St. Lucie between November and January. The Jamaica-based chain serves beef patties, jerk chicken, authentic breads and Caribbean specialties. Golden Krust has over 125 restaurants across North America and 26 locations in Florida.

The 297-acre Indrio Savannahs Preserve at 5275 Tozour Road has reopened following an 18-month restoration project funded by the American Rescue Plan. The project reconnected the preserve's historic marsh system, created three acres of new wetland and improved stormwater management. New boardwalks allow visitors to cross the wetland and access trails. The preserve includes three miles of trails, a 35-acre lake and connects to the adjacent Lake Indrio Preserve.
