🟠 Main Squeeze: St. Lucie County just approved 332 new homes near Indrio Road

The Club at Indrio Creek got approved Monday in a 3 to 2 vote 🏘️.

What it is 📋:

  • 🏠 210 townhouses and 122 single family homes

  • 📍 South of Indrio Road between Emerson Avenue and Seminole Road

  • 🌳 About 126 acres

  • 🏗️ Developer: Terra Solo Group

How we got here: The project has been in the works for a year and a half. The original plan called for 420 units. By the time it reached Monday’s meeting it was down to 332 after months of negotiations with county planning staff. Even at 332 units the developer still needed four waivers from county requirements.

Why two commissioners voted no: The dissenting votes came down to one argument. The site is too small for what the zoning category actually requires and the county should not be approving projects that need waivers to get over the finish line. One commissioner put it plainly: if it does not meet code it is the board’s responsibility to deny it.

Why the majority said yes: The project substantially meets the code. The question before the commission is not whether they love the project. It is whether it meets the requirements. Three commissioners said it does enough to approve.

The developer declined to comment after the vote.

🏊 IRSC Swimming and Diving Programs Face Elimination

IRSC's Board of Trustees will consider eliminating men's and women's swimming and diving at its October 27 meeting, as part of a broader athletic restructuring plan. The men's team has won 52 straight NJCAA national titles, and an online petition has nearly 10,000 signatures. If approved, the change would take effect in the 2027-2028 academic year.

🚒 St. Lucie Fire Board Terminates Chief Jeff Lee

The St. Lucie County Fire Board voted 4-3 to end Chief Jeff Lee’s contract without cause, following fallout from a hazing investigation. Deputy Chief Paul Langel was named interim chief, and the district will hire a recruiter for a permanent replacement. Lee’s severance is expected to total about $350,000, and the union is still negotiating to reinstate three fired veteran firefighters.

⚛️ St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant Turns 50

The St. Lucie County Nuclear Power Plant is celebrating 50 years of operation, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission just granted licenses for 20 more.
