🌅 SLN - August 27th - 📰 Meet Ja'Min & Why I Started Sunland News

🍊🌴 Tuesday Deep Dive

Welcome to Sunland News! The daily newsletter that keeps you up to date on the business, community, and people of Saint Lucie County.

Good Morning, Good Tuesday, Good People!

Welcome to Sunland News—the newsletter that’s like that one uncle at the family reunion who says, “You don’t even remember me, do you?” 😂

For those new to SLN, I’ve been trying out a new structure where, on Tuesdays, we do a deep dive on a topic, person, or something we think needs more attention. We’ve had some amazing interviews, including chats with Stoney’s BBQ and NFL Legend Albert Wilson. But today, with so many new people joining us, I thought it would be fun to do a quick interview with… myself! (Yes, that’s me in the photo above 🤣).

It’s only fair that you get to know the person behind these emails you receive five days a week. Plus, I recorded this conversation with myself, so you can expect it in video/audio form later this week.

Thank you so much for reading SLN. If you find it valuable, don’t forget to tell a friend (and make sure you use your referral link to get credit—I’ve got free stuff waiting for you).

— Ja’Min

P.S. The full video full will be released Friday on Sunland TV.

Why I Started Sunland News 📰

The Birth of Sunland News

Sunland News started as an idea that had been floating around in my mind for years. The name itself, "Sunland," is rooted in my personal history, specifically Sunland Gardens in Fort Pierce, where much of my family still resides. This connection to my hometown inspired me to create something that highlights the local community and its stories. After years of brainstorming and sitting on various ideas, I finally decided to take the leap and start this newsletter, which quickly became one of the most rewarding projects of my life.

The Creative Journey

As someone who’s always had a notebook full of ideas, execution has always been the challenge. Sunland News represents a culmination of my experiences and interests—writing, documenting, and connecting with my community. It's a platform that allows me to be both a student and a storyteller, learning about the past, present, and future of the place I call home. The process has opened doors I didn’t even know existed and has made me more engaged with my surroundings than ever before.

Why Sunland News Matters

This newsletter is about more than just delivering news—it's about creating something that resonates with the community. My goal is to build something that can last, something that feels like a part of the community fabric. Sunland News isn’t just about me; it’s about bringing art, stories, and local happenings to the forefront, making sure that the people in St. Lucie County have something they can look forward to every morning.

Looking Ahead

The first month of Sunland News has been a soft launch, but I have big plans moving forward. From expanding the content to include deep dives and interviews to creating a comprehensive events list, I want this newsletter to grow and evolve alongside the community. My vision is for Sunland News to become a cherished part of daily life—a piece of art that informs, inspires, and connects us all.

Building a Community

One of the most surprising and rewarding aspects of this journey has been the feedback loop that has developed. Readers have not only engaged with the content but have also taken the time to reach out, share their thoughts, and even offer critiques. This interaction has reinforced my belief in the value of this project. It’s not just about me writing; it’s about fostering a dialogue with the community.

Final Thoughts

Sunland News has become a part of my everyday life, and I’m committed to making it the best it can be. I’m dialing back on other projects to focus on this, and I’m excited about where it’s headed. Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of this journey so far—whether you’ve subscribed, shared your feedback, or just taken the time to read. This is just the beginning, and I’m looking forward to what’s next.
