🌅Saint Lucie Plays Nice 😇

☀️🌱 PLUS: Wild boars invade Tradition area & Linda Cox leads Fort Pierce until February

Good Morning, Sunland!

It’s Friday! Getting up this morning probably was harder than usual. Okay, maybe that’s just me. I’m surprised it’s not a state of emergency with it being 45 degrees out right now. We better savor it; not far-fetched for this to be the coldest day of the year 😂 . Wear your big coat while you can. Alright…

If you missed the event’s list yesterday, check it out here.

👀 Caught My Eye: Was walking up to the Publix in Saint James yesterday when I noticed Cafe In Havana. Unfortunately, they closed up shop pretty early, but I’m definitely trying it this morning. Seems like they have some great breakfast and brunch options.

🕹️ Give it A Try: The new Sunland Crossword awaits you here. P.S. If you ever need help, you always have a phone (email) a friend with me. Everyone gets a freebie if they email and ask. 😂

Acting City Manager Linda Cox to Stay in Role Until Permanent Successor Is Hired

Continuing in an Interim Role Amid Transition

Acting City Manager Linda Cox will continue in her role until mid-February 2025, when a permanent successor to Nicholas Mimms is selected. The Fort Pierce City Commission voted unanimously to extend Cox’s interim position, with her compensation set at $176,400 annually, a figure matching the pay of the city's two deputy city managers plus five percent.

Cox stepped into the acting position after Mimms’ arrest in August 2024 on bid tampering and official misconduct charges. His arrest followed allegations that he was involved in a fraudulent bid process related to a city land project that misused donated funds. Mimms’ legal case has been delayed until early 2025, and his official termination is set for Feb. 17, 2025.

Cox’s leadership will guide the city until finalist interviews for the new city manager are completed in early February. She is expected to apply for the permanent position.

What’s Next for Fort Pierce?

The search for a permanent city manager is underway, with interviews for finalists to conclude by Feb. 3. The city’s residents are eager for clarity and accountability as this leadership transition unfolds.
