🚦 The Main Squeeze: Red Light Cameras Coming to PSL

TLDR: Port St. Lucie is moving ahead with a plan to install red light cameras at high-crash intersections. The goal is to cut down on deadly accidents and hold drivers more accountable.
💬 Why It Matters: Traffic deaths in the city have already passed last year’s total. With more cars on the road and limited enforcement resources, officials say these cameras could help reduce reckless driving and improve public safety. WPTV has the full story
📍 Where They Could Go:
Three intersections on Port St. Lucie Blvd
Three on St. Lucie West Blvd
Most dangerous: Cashmere and St. Lucie West
👮 What the Police Chief Says: PSL’s Police Chief says the department studied three years of crash data and believes automated enforcement could help make the roads safer. “People need to be held accountable for bad driver behavior,” he said during the council presentation.
🗳 What’s Next: The ordinance still needs final City Council approval before cameras can be installed. If passed, it’ll take some time before they go live.
📊 By the Numbers:
Since 2022, the city has recorded 264 crashes at the top 10 intersections under review.
🗳 Do you think red light cameras are a good idea for
Port St. Lucie?
