🟠 Main Squeeze: Port St. Lucie just approved the site plan for a Costco

The long-awaited Costco is one step closer 🛒.
Port St. Lucie City Council approved the site plan for a 163,000 square foot Costco retail store Monday along the Southern Grove corridor in western Port St. Lucie. The city has been working toward this for a while and Monday's vote moves it forward.
But Costco is not the only thing that got approved. Council also greenlit two other major site plans the same night that are worth knowing about.
The first is a 5.5 acre site kicking off the first phase of the Tradition Entertainment District, bringing restaurants and retail to an area that has historically been underserved for both. The second is a 55,000 square foot acute care rehabilitation hospital with 42 beds offering inpatient and outpatient services.
Southern Grove is already home to Amazon, Tamco and Cheney Brothers. The idea has always been that once the jobs came, the retail, healthcare and entertainment would follow. Monday night was a pretty clear sign that is actually happening.

💧 The Last Drop: Two Florida Headlines

🤧 Flu season is showing up early: About 3.6% of flu tests nationwide came back positive in early October, compared with just 0.6% at the same point last year, according to CDC data. Health experts say now is the time to get your flu shot, since it takes up to two weeks to build full protection, and a new mRNA flu vaccine is available this season for adults 50 and older. 🛒 Publix isn’t closing stores over a sales slump: Reports that Publix is closing Florida stores because of lagging sales are misleading. The four stores on those lists closed months ago, three so they could be rebuilt and one a week before a larger store opened nearby. Publix has opened 16 new Florida stores this year, with five more on the way in the next few weeks. Read more
