🟠 Main Squeeze: The new North Causeway Bridge in Fort Pierce opens May 15

The new State Road A1A North Causeway Bridge is set to open at 8 a.m. on May 15, weather permitting, connecting the Fort Pierce mainland to the beach over the Indian River Lagoon 🌉.

Honestly it has been years since anyone has been able to cross this bridge and I have been thinking about it all week. Coming across South Bridge earlier this week it hit me that there is a whole section of the island that has essentially been disconnected, not completely cut off because you could always drive up to come across, but disconnected enough that most people just stopped thinking about what is over there. The Navy Museum, everything up north on the island, that whole stretch. When this thing opens I am going in 👀.

It kind of reminds me of when Crosstown opened and a whole new flow of traffic just started happening naturally.

What the new bridge includes 📋:

  • 🚗 One lane in each direction

  • 🚲 Wide buffered bike lanes

  • 🚶 Protected sidewalks and shared use paths

  • ⛵ High enough clearance for large boats to pass underneath without stopping traffic above

  • 🔭 An observation deck beneath the west side of the structure

  • 🛣️ New access roads and connections into the East Coast Greenway

At an estimated $111.5 million when complete, it is the tallest bridge on the Treasure Coast. And unlike the old drawbridge it replaces, this one never lifts. No more sitting in traffic waiting on boats.

Worth noting: When the bridge opens on May 15 some bike lanes, shared use paths on the north side, and the observation deck will still be closed while construction continues. Pedestrians will be directed to the south side sidewalk. The old drawbridge will be permanently closed to vehicles and eventually demolished, with final project work continuing into late 2027.

🏄 Fellsmere Building Florida's First Surf Park With Wave Pool

Construction is underway on The Point Surf Park, a $30 million project featuring a 700 foot artificial wave pool using Endless Surf technology opening in 2026. The park will have separate zones for beginners and experienced surfers with waves controlled by air pressure. Fort Pierce was set to have something similiar to the wave pool here, but the news on that project has been silent for months.
