Good Morning, Sunland

It's Friday! And the roads are so quiet without the school buses, I feel like something is off when I'm driving lol. Somebody did email asking about the school zone lights still being on in some areas. I'll ask around to see what's the process of getting those off while school is not in.

🎖️ Stars and Stripes Park opened! A new park honoring veterans and first responders is now open at Tradition in Port St. Lucie with themed art pieces designed to honor their contributions to the community. Read here

🟠 Main Squeeze: Jojo's Wings is coming to Port St. Lucie

If you know, you know. Jojo's Wings has been on Okeechobee Road in Fort Pierce for nearly 27 years and this summer they are opening a second location at 1327 NW St. Lucie West Blvd. in the Shoppes of St. Lucie West, right near Cava 🍗.

Same menu, same 15 house made sauces, a few new items they are keeping secret until opening day. The new spot will be smaller with a pickup counter and limited seating but will have extended hours including Mondays and late nights.

Worth noting: What started as two best friends selling barbecue sauce turned into a family operation that has been running for nearly three decades. Founder Vinson Polk's daughter Shakina Nicole Butts, who started working there at 14, now co-owns it.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Opening end of June 📅.

Follow them on Instagram and Facebook for opening day updates.

🎓 Press Round: Schools, Sustainability & Strolls

🎓 New School Gets Green Light for Vacant Downtown Fort Pierce Building

Legacy Future Scholars Academy received unanimous approval from the City Commission June 1 to occupy the 510 Orange Avenue building, a former W.T. Grant variety store vacant for about 30 years. The school plans to spend $1 million on improvements to serve PreK through 8th grade with a maximum of 200 students. The Peacocks will share parking with First United Methodist Church and an adjacent property and feature eight classrooms, a gym, playground and cafeteria.

🚶 Most Treasure Coast Cities Rated Unwalkable by EPA Index

According to the EPA's National Walkability Index, only Fort Pierce and Jensen Beach have "above average walkability" scores, with Vero Beach at 11/20. Stuart and Sebastian both score 10/20 ("below average"), Port St. Lucie 9/20, with Fellsmere, Indiantown and Indian River Shores ranking among the least walkable. Vero Beach leads the region with more than 2,200 acres of walkable neighborhoods, followed by Fort Pierce with 1,100 acres. Walkable neighborhoods reduce pollution, encourage exercise and increase property values.

🐔 Stuart May Allow Up to Four Backyard Chickens

Stuart commissioners will decide June 8 whether to vote June 22 on allowing up to four chickens in single-family homes and duplexes kept in a backyard coop with a hedge or fence. No roosters would be permitted. The Community Redevelopment Board and Local Planning Agency both recommended approval, noting growing interest among youth20 youth are in this year's egg production project, up from previous years. An annual fee rather than a $65 permit may be required.
