Indrio Development a Go

If you’ve ever tried to fit too many pieces into a game of Tetris, you’ll get the gist of what’s been happening with the Indrio Woods development saga. After months of juggling, reshuffling, and trying to make all the pieces fit, the St. Lucie County Commission finally dropped the winning piece on October 15, giving the Indrio Woods Planned Unit Development (PUD) the green light with a 4-1 vote.

How It Went Down:

  • First Round Fumble: Like that frustrating moment when you realize you misjudged a piece, the project was denied back in March. But the developers reworked their strategy, making last-minute changes that got them a second chance in May.

  • Workforce Housing Block: In the spirit of adding a few lines, 10% of the 229 units are now set aside for workforce housing—aimed at folks earning 100-120% of the area’s median income. It’s like clearing a line but keeping the game going for 15 years.

  • Traffic Tweaks: Instead of piling up congestion, the developers added a “right-in-only” lane from Indrio Road and promised upgrades along Taylor Dairy Road. Think of it as finding that perfect path through a tight spot.

  • Sidewalk Snag: This part’s still a little jagged. Imagine trying to connect pieces, but the neighboring Binney Estate decided to be the stubborn block that just won’t move. So, sidewalk plans won’t be fully connected for now.

  • Final Score: In the end, Chairwoman Cathy Townsend still wasn’t sold, but Commissioner Larry Leet switched sides, giving the developers a win with a 4-1 vote.

It took months of adjustments, but the developers managed to fit most of the pieces together. There are still a few gaps (like the sidewalk), but at least this game of Tetris has moved to the next level. And keep an eye on Indrio Road—business activity is set to keep growing, not just with this development, but also with the infamous Buc-ee’s set to begin construction soon.
