📰 Fort Pierce Lost Brightline, but the Future is Still Bright for Travel

FPR, or the Treasure Coast Airport, has been a point of discussion lately due to the potential for international flights in the near future. The airport has been making improvements to become FAA compliant and is already in talks with two major airlines to have their own terminals here. United Airlines is considering training their pilots at FPR, which could mean more flights landing on the tarmac in Fort Pierce.

With these developments, Fort Pierce and Port Saint Lucie could see significant growth in the next 10-15 years, attracting more people to the area for travel or as a destination. The county, home to many snowbirds, will become more accessible during the winter months.

Fun fact: FPR could potentially become the biggest airport in the state! It has more land space than other airports but has been underdeveloped or underutilized. There's potential for us to overtake West Palm Beach or even Fort Lauderdale airports in terms of flight volume.

In the meantime, Our neighboring city, Vero Beach, is hiring for Breeze Airways. It's a short drive away, so if you're looking for an opportunity to work at an airport, this is your chance. Having a crew will allow flights to begin out of Vero Beach and not just be a destination for air travel. [Read More Here]

👀 Campaign Signs Everywhere? Here’s Why

Have you been seeing a lot of campaign signs recently? Have you been confused about who or what people are running for?

Your confusion is understandable, as the recent Saint Lucie County sheriff race is the most expensive in county history. All the candidates combined have raised over $1.5 million in campaign funds, with Del Toro leading the pack and Pearson close behind in second place.

The circumstances that have led to such a high amount of fundraising are unclear, but rest assured, the signs won’t be going away anytime soon as we approach election season.

Here at Sunland News, our goal is to keep you informed about what’s happening right in your backyard. In upcoming newsletters, we’ll have a campaign tracker to keep you updated on the funding of each candidate and provide deep dives to help you make an informed decision.

Be sure to share the newsletter with a friend to keep everyone in the loop. If you’re ever curious about campaign spending in the area, visit the Saint Lucie County Supervisor of Elections website and do the deep dives yourself—you may be surprised at what you find. [Read More Here]
