📋 Sebastian City Council to Vote on Charter Amendments Raising Council Pay

Sebastian City Council will hold two readings on proposed charter amendments on June 24 and July 8, with changes recommended by the city's Charter Review Committee. The amendments would increase the mayor's monthly pay from $450 to $750 and vice mayor and council members from $300 to $600, with future increases tied to cost-of-living adjustments provided to city employees. The amendments would also extend required domicile from one year to two years before qualifying for office, requiring candidates to reside 270 days in a 12-month period. Additionally, the charter would prohibit those convicted of felonies or misdemeanors involving moral turpitude from running for office unless the conviction has been pardoned or expunged. Councilwoman Sherrie Matthews said compensation isn't a priority, while Councilman Ed Dodd noted personal expenses often exceed his monthly pay.

First Treasure Coast Dutch Bros Drive-Thru Coffee Delayed to August

The first Dutch Bros on the Treasure Coast, coming to Fort Pierce at 2050 South U.S. 1, has delayed its opening from May or June to August, though the location is on track to open by end of year, according to a Dutch Bros spokesperson. The store will occupy the former Checkers location, which closed in 2023 with the building demolished in February. Dutch Bros, founded in 1992 as a pushcart by brothers Dane and Travis Boersma in Oregon, now operates over 1,043 stores across 17 states and specializes in handcrafted coffee, energy drinks, teas and cold brews. The chain offers classic coffees, Dutch faves, blended drinks, protein coffees, Rebel energy drinks, lemonades, iced teas and seasonal drinks.

🏗️ Indiantown Considers Data Center Proposal at Federal Superfund Site

Indiantown is reviewing Project Growler, a 600,000 square foot data center proposal at 18300 Southwest Warfield Boulevard at the former Florida Steel Corp. site, a federal Superfund toxic waste cleanup site. The proposal calls for four buildings (two industrial at 340,000 and 180,000 square feet, two administrative) on a 146-acre site to be built in one phase. Mayor Camine Dipaolo visited a Tennessee data center in March and found it surprisingly quiet, with the loudest noise being a lawn mower, allaying some noise concerns. While the community was divided at April council meetings, with roughly half favoring and half opposing data centers, Dipaolo said he wants to see full engineering proposals before deciding. Another FPL-backed proposal could also move forward on thousands of recently annexed acres.
