Good Morning, Sunland

It's Tuesday! And I am super excited to share this. Myself and Robin of Martin County Press are starting up a podcast to talk about things happening locally and statewide and how we are affected here as an entire district. 🌴 Main Squeeze: New Data Suggests Fewer People Are Moving to Florida

New census data suggests fewer people are moving to Florida overall. And the numbers are pretty wild.

The Numbers: Net domestic migration to Florida exploded in 2021 with 253,220 new residents. It peaked at 310,892 in 2022, and then just fell off. 183,646 in 2023, 58,411 in 2024, and just 22,517 in 2025. That's a 93% drop in three years. Florida went from the No. 1 destination state in the country all the way down to No. 8.

A Couple Things Happened: Remote work, which drove a lot of the pandemic-era migration, is hard to come by as a lot of people are back in offices. There also was a slate of hurricanes, four of which were Category 3 or stronger. That drove up insurance costs. And home prices went from a median of $298,300 in January 2021 to $412,800 in January 2026.

Now Why That's Interesting for Us: Port St. Lucie is still one of the faster growing cities in the country. Last I checked, 16.2 people per 1,000 residents were moving here every month as of December 2025, earning PSL the title of hottest ZIP code in America for four straight months. So while Florida's overall numbers are cooling off, people are still very much choosing the Treasure Coast. Worth keeping an eye on how long that lasts.

Are you from here originally, or did you move to the Treasure Coast? Leave your thoughts

🌮 Main Squeeze: El Mas Chingon Tequila Bar & Grill is Worth the Trip to Orange Avenue

So ironically enough, a week ago I put this place in the newsletter and then ended up there last night for my cousin's birthday. Happy birthday to her by the way.

El Mas Chingon Tequila Bar & Grill is on Orange Avenue in Fort Pierce, closer to I-95. You're already not getting a ton of restaurants on that side of Orange Avenue, so the fact that they set up shop down there is great. The atmosphere inside is nice too, kind of dark in a good way. You can see it turning into a solid nightlife spot as the night goes on. They close at 10 PM during the week, and 11 PM on Friday and Saturday though.

The Food: I went with the carne asada and it was solid. The chips were really fresh and the salsa and queso they brought out were really good. Prices were great too. My steak was $25. They also have a lunch special from 11 AM to 3 PM, which we missed, but worth knowing. I wish they had more options for sides, but still was great.

The Vibe: Got a chance to practice my Spanish. They were very accommodating with my terrible ordering skills. If you're a fan of Casa Migos on US 1, you'd probably like this place. Great spot especially during the week when you want a reason to go out but don't want to break the bank.

The Verdict: Solid 7.5 out of 10. Check it out.
