🟠 Main Squeeze: Florida driver's licenses are getting a new field starting July 1st

A new Florida law signed earlier this year requires the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to add citizenship status to driver's licenses and state ID cards. It kicks in July 1st for any new licenses or renewals 🪪.
You do not have to go to the DMV just for this. It only applies when you are already getting a new license or renewing one. If you become a U.S. citizen and want your status updated, the state is required to issue a replacement card at no charge.
The change is part of a broader elections bill that also removes debit cards, student IDs, retirement center IDs and public assistance IDs as acceptable forms of voter identification. The full law takes effect January 1, 2027.
What's next: July 1st is when the driver's license change starts showing up on new and renewed cards 📅.
