π Main Squeeze: The future of Crabbyβs Dockside is back on the agenda at this morningβs Fort Pierce City Commission meeting

A deal to assign the lease to a new operator has fallen through. So here we are again.
If you have not been following this one, here is the full timeline of what happened with Crabbyβs and here is the last update from the commission where staff came back asking for another 30 days to finalize a potential ownership transfer. That transfer is now off the table.
Quick recap of where things stand: Crabbyβs vacated the waterfront property back in February. Since then the city has been trying to figure out what to do with the outstanding balance and whether someone could take over the lease. The current tenant of record, Winking Starfish LLC, now owes the city $333,942.71 as of today. That number has grown from the $215,000 that was on the books when they left.
What the commission has to decide this morning π:
π° The $333,942.71 β pursue collection or waive it
π The lease β keep trying to find someone to take it over or terminate it entirely
ποΈ The site β open it up to a full RFP and let people compete for it
That third option is worth watching. This is a prime piece of waterfront land in downtown Fort Pierce and if it goes to open bidding there will be no shortage of interest. The flip side is that whoever comes in has to be able to actually sustain a restaurant operation that can cover the rent on a property like this. That has already proven to be harder than it looks.
We will have an update after the meeting π.

β΅ Gifford Dock Getting New Life with County-City Partnership
Indian River County and Vero Beach are working together to upgrade the historic Gifford Dock, a fishing destination that's been around since the 1880s. They're adding a boat rental kiosk so people can actually get out on the water, building a pavilion on the dock itself, and connecting the site to a new 15-acre conservation area. A state FIND grant is funding the design work with the county matching the funds.

π§ Port St. Lucie Flooding
That intersection at California and Savona boulevards in Port St. Lucie is turning into a lake every time it rains hard, and local business owners are losing because of it. The city is putting in water sensors to alert them faster and planning a bigger drainage project with new retention ponds and raised roads, but they're saying it'll take time.

π½οΈ Chef Mark Jones Opening Intimate Spot in Downtown Jensen Beach
The deal fell through for chef Mark Jones to take over 11 Maple Street, but instead he's opening GRΓ in the old Broth space downtown. It's going to be a smaller, more intimate setup with a set menu and just a few seatings each night. Jones is bringing his creative approach to seasonal dishes inspired by his own life and the people he loves. Opening is coming soon.
