🟠 Main Squeeze: The Council on Aging senior center on Orange Avenue in Fort Pierce is expected to close

I only became familiar with the Council on Aging this year after being invited to a Juneteenth event they hosted and I immediately fell in love with what they are doing for this community. WPTV broke this story Monday and here is what you need to know.
What is happening 📋:
🏢 The Council on Aging of St. Lucie has confirmed the senior center at 1505 Orange Avenue in Fort Pierce is expected to close
💰 The property is currently listed for sale at $2.2 million
📅 No finalized closing date yet because the timeline is tied to when the property sells
🚌 Seniors who use the Orange Avenue location are expected to transition to the Council on Aging's facility on Bayshore Boulevard in Port St. Lucie, with transportation provided
What the Council on Aging says: Services are not ending. Meals, activities, social opportunities and transportation will all continue at the Port St. Lucie location.
What seniors are saying: The location matters. Fort Pierce seniors want access to services in their own community, not across town. One senior put it plainly: "That makes us even angrier. We can't have something in our own community."
That frustration is worth taking seriously. This is not just about a building. It is about whether Fort Pierce seniors have a place that belongs to them where they actually live.
For now: Services at the Orange Avenue location are still running 📅.
