🏠 Main Squeeze: Cold Weather Shelter Should Be Coming to Port St. Lucie's Minsky Gym

St. Lucie County and the City of Port St. Lucie are moving forward with a formal agreement to operate a cold weather shelter at Minsky Gym. The interlocal agreement goes before county commissioners Tuesday night on the consent agenda.
The Backstory: Two weeks ago, I posted a clip of a PSL resident speaking at City Commission about the lack of a cold weather shelter. Now there's a formal agreement on the table.
The Context: Fort Pierce already has a cold weather shelter agreement with the county at Percy Peek Gym, when temperatures drop below 40 degrees for more than four hours. The shelter was recently extended through February 3. Port St. Lucie would be getting a similar setup at Minsky Gym.
What I Found Out: I reached out to Commissioner Clasby to ask what the process would be with agreements like this. He told me something like this requires both boards to agree on a formal agenda through an interlocal agreement. The county has it ready and is just waiting on any final comments from Port St. Lucie.
What's Next: County commissioners vote Tuesday night. Full agenda
