Storm Helene is set to make landfall in the next day or so. Hoping everyone stays safe, and be sure to check in on those who may need help! If any word of shelters or helpful resources pops up, I'll be sure to notify everyone.

🎨 Calling All Young Artists: Florida’s Fish Art Contest Now Open!
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, in partnership with Wildlife Forever, invites K-12 students to participate in the 2024-2025 Fish Art Contest! Create original artwork featuring Florida native fish species, along with a one-page creative writing submission (required for grades 4-12). The contest aims to build future stewards of the outdoors and is open until Feb. 28, 2025. Winners will have their artwork featured in FWC's regulations guide and displayed at the FWC headquarters.

🛠️ Join the Public Workshop for Fort Pierce Redevelopment!
The Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, in collaboration with the City of Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency, is hosting a public workshop on Saturday, Oct 5, followed by design charrette studio days from Sunday, Oct 6 to Wednesday, Oct 9.
This is your chance to help shape the future redevelopment of the Fort Pierce Wastewater Treatment Plant and adjacent properties on South Hutchinson Island.

🚆 Amtrak Introduces 'Floridian' Train Route from Chicago to Miami!
Amtrak is launching the "Floridian" train route with direct, round-trip service between Chicago and Miami, featuring stops in Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa. The route combines the "Capitol Limited" and "Silver Star" lines, offering a new travel experience.
The first trip kicks off on Sunday, Nov. 10.

📢 Last Full-Size Kmart in Mainland U.S. Closing Next Month
Kmart, once a leading discount retailer, is closing its last full-size store in the mainland United States in Bridgehampton, New York, on October 20th. This marks the end of an era, with the only remaining smaller Kmart store in Miami and others in Guam and the US Virgin Islands.
New Free Concert Series
Port Saint Lucie is stepping up its game with a brand new, free concert series called River Nights. If you’ve been craving some live music or just looking for something to do, this might be exactly what you need. It feels like the area is really starting to embrace new events and create more opportunities for us to gather, and this concert series is definitely a sign of that shift (or maybe it’s just me).
The River Nights concerts will be held at the Port District, which recently opened and is quickly becoming a popular spot for people to walk around or snap some photos—I’ve already seen it pop up on Instagram a few times.
This 9.75-acre gathering spot along the North Fork of the St. Lucie River offers a bit of everything: a historic village, open pavilions, an interactive playground for kids, a kayak and canoe launch, and the southern extension of the Riverwalk Boardwalk. There’s also an open event lawn and an overwater stage where all the live music will be happening.
The concert series will take place on the second Thursday of every month, from October through April 2025, giving you plenty of chances to come out, relax, and enjoy the series. The local band NME will kick things off on October 10th, but each month will feature a different band, with a variety of music genres to keep things fresh.
