Good Morning, Sunland
It's Monday and there's going to be so much happening this month.
An idea I thought of though, well let me say, probably going against my best judgment by putting the idea out there, but somebody else could do this too. I do think this is viable. Being that there's so many events happening and going on, I feel like people need event reviews. Like, did I go? Was it worth it? Would I recommend it? I'm just wondering if that's interesting content for the newsletter.

🧃 The Main Squeeze: Buc-ee's Update!

What's Going On: A second Buc-ee's billboard appeared on southbound I-95 just north of the Indrio Road exit, right near where the mega gas station plans to build. The sign reads "I LOVE THE WAY YOU LOOK AT ME." I've been covering this project for over a year now, and while the billboards are going up, the reality is we're still about a year away from seeing the actual store.
Still Waiting: Buc-ee's first proposed building on the Treasure Coast back in 2023. The proposal has gone through various site plan changes since then. St. Lucie County expects Buc-ee's to submit a new site plan by the end of this week. If and when all approvals get secured, construction takes 12 to 15 months from start to opening day.
The Split Opinion: Many locals are hoping Buc-ee's will bring well-paying jobs to the area. Others are worried about turning the Indrio area into a tourist trap, especially with the traffic impact on homes that aren't used to that kind of influx of people.
Where to Get Your Fix Now: There are currently two Buc-ee's in Florida at St. Augustine and Daytona Beach. Besides Fort Pierce, other proposed locations include Ocala, Tallahassee, and Port Charlotte.
Bottom line: The new billboard has people excited, but don't hold your breath. Even with site plan approval coming soon, we're looking at another year before Buc-ee's actually opens.

🍊 Press Round: Art, Eats & Educators

🎨 $85M Museum Expansion Will Double Gallery Space
The Vero Beach Museum of Art will demolish its 40-year-old building and construct a new two-story structure elevated 9 feet above the flood zone, doubling gallery space to 22,000 square feet with free admission to the first floor. The two-year project includes a 300-seat auditorium, multiple terraces facing the lagoon, and an acre and a half of new landscaped gardens opening in 2027.
🍔 Connecticut Chain Replaces Bonefish Mac's in PSL
Maggie McFly's will open summer 2026 at 662 S.E. Becker Road after Bonefish Mac's Sports Grille closes October 12th following 17 years on the Treasure Coast. The Connecticut-based chain serves American, Asian, Italian, and Tex-Mex cuisine, with menu items like Big Mac eggrolls, sriracha burgers, and a dessert called "The Titanic."
💵 Martin County Teachers to Become Highest-Paid on Treasure Coast
The school district and union reached a tentative agreement using nearly $1 million for salary increases and performance pay, raising starting teacher salaries by $266 with larger bumps for veteran educators. The deal follows the district earning an A rating from the state and aims to both retain current staff and attract new talent.
