🟠 Main Squeeze: Brightline is buying time as bankruptcy talks continue

Brightline is trying to avoid a formal default and right now it has bought itself a couple of weeks, but nothing is guaranteed 🚆.
The company made its July 1st payments but that was it for reserves. Creditors extended a key deadline to July 15th while negotiations continue over how to restructure $5.5 billion in debt. The problem is the different groups of bondholders cannot agree on who controls the process, so there is no plan in place and time is running out.
The current owner Fortress Investment Group is reportedly ready to hand the keys over to creditors. A restructuring outside of bankruptcy court was always the goal but that window is getting smaller by the day.
If they default, it likely means a court supervised bankruptcy. That puts the company's assets, routes and operations under a judge's control while creditors fight over what they are owed. Train service could continue during that process but the long term future of the railroad, who owns it, what it looks like and where it goes, would all be up in the air 👀.
What's next: July 15th is the next deadline 📅.
