All photos today are B&Wโฆ not sorry lol
Good Morning, Sunland! Itโs Wednesday!
This is Sunland News! The email newsletter thatโs like your travel partner for the county.
Yesterday, I ran a survey asking everyone what they wanted more of in the newsletter, and events won by far! So, I wanted to make sure you're actually seeing them. Iโve moved the events section in the newsletter right after our main news, followed by a live music section. Be sure to scroll down to check them out.
Thanks for all the continued feedback as I work to make the newsletter as useful as possible for everyone who's a part of Sunland.
Letโs get into it.

๐ซ St. Lucie County Schools Wonโt Need Make-up Days
Welp, while weโre still recovering from the chaos that was Hurricane Milton, it seems Saint Lucie County students are catching a break. Unlike other counties that will be stuck making up missed school days, Saint Lucie County had already baked those extra minutes into the calendar. That means no make-up days are needed. ๐ฅณ

โฝGas Shortages Linger After Hurricane Milton
Even though Hurricane Milton has moved on, its aftermath is still being felt at gas stations across Florida. The hardest hit? Tampa, where nearly half the gas stations are still bone dry. The lines are long, tempers are short, and yes, there have even been fistfights at the pump. Yikes.
The problem stems from Port Tampa Bay, where more than 43% of Floridaโs gas supply flows in.

โ๏ธ Boeing Cuts 10% Of Workforce Amid Strike And Financial Struggles
Boeing is having a year, and not in a good way. First, they had people stranded in space (yes, really), followed by a massive strike from more than 30,000 factory workers, and now theyโve announced plans to cut 10% of their workforce, which means 17,000 jobs gone. As if that wasnโt enough, theyโre scrambling to raise $10 billion to stay afloat.
Stuart Really Doesnโt Want Brightline
Stuart really doesn't want Brightline. At this point, theyโre practically begging to give it away. The latest rejection by the Stuart City Commission seems to have dimmed any remaining hope of getting a Brightline station there.
Three commissioners voted against a proposal that wouldโve limited the cityโs financial responsibility to $5 million, with Mayor Campbell Rich and Commissioner Eula Clarke being the only ones in favor. The proposal would have still required county approval, but Stuart couldnโt even get past its own commission.
One commissioner, Christopher Collins, was straight up like, "Take it to Fort Pierce," because he doesnโt want Stuart footing the bill for a station. Meanwhile, Fort Pierce, which lost its bid for a Brightline station earlier this year, is probably just waiting for its chance to swoop in.
Even though the business community has been vocal in their support for Brightline, with local business owners showing up in their yellow shirts, it doesnโt look like the City Commission is convinced. And with the deadline for a crucial federal grant looming, the chances of meeting that are slipping away fast.
Bottom line? Unless something changes drastically, itโs looking like Stuart is about to let this train leave the stationโฆ for good.
