🟠 Main Squeeze: The Amazon facility in Port St. Lucie closes Wednesday and 850 workers are affected
We covered this back in May when the news first broke. Thursday September 17th is the actual closure date and we wanted to make sure people had not forgotten 📦.
Here is the situation. The Amazon fulfillment center at 7600 LTC Parkway just south of Midway Road in Port St. Lucie is temporarily closing starting Wednesday. The closure is expected to last two years while Amazon invests $200 million to transform the site into a new fulfillment center. When it reopens in mid to late 2028 the company says it will employ approximately 1,000 people and everyone from the current site will have the option to return.
In the meantime 850 employees are affected. Amazon said staff can transfer to one of 30 Amazon facilities across South Florida and will receive a four week severance package along with help with health benefits. The St. Lucie County Economic Development Council has also been working to connect impacted workers with other local opportunities, pointing to several new operations opening in Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce over the coming months.
That is the official version of what is happening. We want to know what is actually happening on the ground.
